Portion Sizes Grow

Restaurants just keep serving bigger meals

When you read that the average restaurant portion size has doubled in the last 20 years it seems obvious that our waistlines will suffer from lots of social evenings out.

Well, not necessarily if you follow these few simple rules:

1) Ask for a lunch-sized portion
Don't be afraid to ask if you can have a lunch size portion at dinner time.

2) Ask for a kids portion
If they dont have a lunch sized portion (Yeah right!) ask for a kids portion. If you quietly explain with a smile that you need to watch your weight any half-human waiter will help you. You both know their tip depends on it, so be firm (but never rude) with them.

3) Ask for a doggie bag from the outset.
If they wont give you a small portion, ask for a takeaway tray or bag and put half the meal in it at the outset. That is tommorow's lunch sorted as well!

4) Drink lots of water with your meal to ensure you feel full. Avoid salt which dehydrates you and makes you feel less full than you actually are.
